It has been forever since posting. Probably because I wasn’t feeling like I was living fit! Being pregnant was the best experience ever. I love our son, Trey. However, I gained 80 pounds during my pregnancy. Happily, I have lost 82 pounds to date. Trey will be 6 months old on Sunday, and I have done 3 half marathons and 1 full marathon in that time. It makes me feel good to know I am getting back to being me!

Rick, Chris (my brother), and I are all training for the Rev3 in Cedar Point on September 8th. If you remember, I was training for the Vineman when I found out I was pregnant. It feels good to be training again, but it is definitely more difficult with a small child. My workout time is my time for me, and I love it. Although, I must admit, I feel guilty taking time away from Trey. I must remind myself constantly that this makes me a better Mommy!

Next month we will be running Rouge Orleans. Actually last year I ended up driving, this year I will be running! March is eventless at this point. April will be a marathon, June is a century ride, and the rest of the time we will be following the 36 week Ironman Training Program through TriFuel. So far, I am loving the workouts. They are fresh, invigorating, and a ton of fun. Looking forward to all the season brings. Feel free to track my progress here! I will get up some photos so you can see the baby transformation!

Happy training!

The energy of the instructor, the music, and the moves all seem really fun! I am just wondering how practical it is. I am not the smoothest one out there and it kind of seems like hip hop dance at some times. If anyone has tried it, I would love to hear your thoughts! After learning that I will look six months pregnant upon leaving the hospital, I want to have a plan in place!

Have you ever been really excited about a race, and then realized you won’t be doing it? That is roughly what happened to me this morning. There is a local half marathon that I love! It is a scenic, shaded course with some hills, and it is fun. As I was talking to Rick about registering for it this morning and seeing if he was on board, he said he didn’t feel comfortable with me doing that this year. He would prefer I sign up for the 5k. Ouch!

Now after he explained his concerns about dehydration, I totally understood. Last year it was ridiculous, and by mile 4 I was drenched. I can see where he is coming from, and I respect his opinion. Therefore, this year I will be doing the 5k! I can’t say I am really excited, but I sure am looking forward to an event. This will be a walking event for me, and that will be new. Plus, I can’t think of the last time I did a 5k. I asked Rick if he wanted to do it with me, and he is on the fence. It sounds like he is going to do the half marathon. I’m a little jealous, but it will be fun to cheer him in for once!

I find it very interesting that while I am adding weight as the baby grows, my husband has decided to shed some pounds. He not only wants to slim down, he wants to be the weight he was when we started dating. He is doing a great job!

It feels like the smaller he gets, the bigger I look. I asked him what the motivation was, and he said that he feels I deserve it. He wants to be at his healthiest for me and the baby. Isn’t that cute?

Now what isn’t cute is the fact that I weigh more than my husband! He will no longer get to see my weight on the scale, and he is ok with that. I asked if he is still attracted to me or if the extra weight is off-putting. He was shocked I asked. He is so excited that our little baby is in there, and he says I have to gain the weight for the baby. That made me feel a lot better. Because even though he said he just wanted to be healthier, some hormonal part of me thought he was losing weight because I was gaining. Strange I know, but I still felt that way.

I will have to post some pictures so you can see me constantly expanding and Rick shrinking away. It is too cute! We all prepare for babies in different ways, but I am really happy that Rick is wanting to be his healthiest for the family. He was already in great shape, but I’m not going to argue if he wants his six-pack back!!

My baby bump has arrived, and with it so have exercise difficulties. I find myself getting winded much easier and my heart rate goes higher faster. About 3 weeks ago, I quite running. My focus has been yoga, but even that is getting harder for me.

Last night, Rick and I attended a meeting at the sailing club. There are quite a few steps to climb, and I was winded when we got to the top. I honestly felt like I needed a minute to catch my breath before we went inside. It is crazy how the body changes! Remember last year when I did the Fight for Air Climb in Detroit? That was 70 flights of stairs, and I never got winded.

People had warned me that working out while pregnant would be harder than I thought. Of course, I was sure it would be fine. I am learning that water aerobics might be my new best friend. I do have a cute blue tie-dye swimsuit to wear. Any other good pregnancy workout ideas?

Rick and I are all signed up for our 7 weeks of prenatal classes. We are planning a drug free delivery, so these should be really helpful. I was surprised by how fast they booked!

We start on April 4th because if we waited, we would be going to classes the week the baby is due. Our doctor wants us to be done with classes a month prior to the due date. The class schedule we are enrolled in will have us a little bit early. Early seems better than late.

I am amazed by all of the things we will learn in 7 weeks. They are going to teach coping strategies for labor, including focused breathing, movement and positioning, labor support, massage and relaxation. Plus we will also cover newborn basics and breastfeeding. That seems like a lot of information for 7 weeks. Clearly they don’t know how clueless Rick and I are!

Tomorrow we start week 23. This is just moving right along! July 19th has seemed like this far out date, and now we are doing things to get ready for the baby. So exciting!!

We survived! Our team did great! Plus our costumes seemed to be quite the hit. Ginger did a great job coming up with this whole matador theme to go around our team name, Faster than a Speeding Bull. It was a very appropriate name for the amount of cows and bulls that were along the course.

Rick ended up running for me, and I’m glad he did. This baby has grown a little bit, and running is no longer in the cards for me. I ended up driving, and it was a blast! Everyone did really well, the course was very scenic and safe. They certainly could have used more restrooms! That left a lot to be desired, but other than that no complaints. We are already working on teams for next year, and I look forward to running.

Our team had a mix of running experience, but everyone did so well! No injuries, no tears, and lots of fun. If you are up for an ultra relay, this is a great one. Just don’t expect any portalets!

I have always enjoyed yoga, but I wasn’t sure I would love prenatal yoga. The DVD and video series I typically use advised against doing while pregnant. That was interesting! So after confirming with my doctor that yoga was ok, I was in search of another option.

Luckily my friend, Sarah, had a suggestion. She had a DVD that she used during pregnancy that she loved. It is from the Yogafit series, and I would highly recommend it. They have someone showing variations for each trimester. Love it! Even though I am in the 2nd trimester, I was still able to stay with the core workout. It was nice to see the modifications that are available in the future.

Now, the lead girl is a little bit over the top with the baby talk, but she gave great affirmations at the end. It was a good yoga routine, and it had a nice flow. Even though the instructor is more “breathe into the baby” than I would prefer, it is still a video I will likely do everyday. If you are looking for a nice 30-35 minute yoga routine that works on stretching and strengthening while pregnant this could be for you.

This weekend was incredible! It was filled with fun, catching up with friends, and spending time with family. One of the fun things I did on Saturday was meet my friend for lunch. We were joined by her 8 month old daughter and her mother. It was a ton of fun! Plus since she has just been though the pregnancy experience she is a wealth of knowledge. She was also kind enough to loan me some maternity cloths. Love her!

As I was getting ready for our fun Sunday plans, I decided to try one of the bras my friend loaned me. Mine has been super snug and not fitting for quite a few weeks. I put on this bra, and then the tears start coming. Big time tears because the bra fit. I mean it fit like a glove. That sounds good right? It should have been, and that is what Rick kept saying as I was crying. Then I told him why I was so upset – the bra size. It is a 34G. Hello!!!! I just wasn’t ready for that. I mean, I am only in the 5th month, how big are these going to get?

My friend sent two size H bras too, now I need to ask, do they make 34I? I’m sure I’m being dramatic about this, but I think it is fair to wonder if these boobs are going to suffocate our child. Plus, how much can the skin stretch? Will it ever go back? Will I ever be a 34DD again? That sounds large too, but on a 5’10″ body they look normal. G does not!

I am sure someone else has had this experience, at least I am hoping. Would you mind to share with me how large the final product was? I just want to mentally prepare for the watermelons I am apparently growing. Thanks for letting me vent. Please feel free to share with me your pregnancy meltdowns. I could use some moral support here!

We have our hotel rooms on each end of the ultramarathon relay booked now. It just seems official! I can’t wait for it to get here! It just seems like such a fun adventure. Plus, I have never been to Louisiana, and I love going new places. So what if we have to run from place to place, right?

The only other race I think I will do while expecting is the Geist Half Marathon in May. I was a little bit nervous about the practicality of it, but my doctor was totally on board. Plus, my weight gain has been holding steady. So, I don’t think I am going to be the blimp I originally predicted.

Things are just moving right along! Tomorrow I start month 5. It is flying by! I’ve been able to keep up with my workouts so that makes me feel good. The race is going to be harder than normal, but I believe I will make it! Can’t wait for it to get here!!
